“Sacrificio” is part of the “Rites” series, which explores the concept of transmutation and the beauty of imperfection. The idea of order and purity is replaced by the exploration of the frailty of being human, as well as its capacity for regeneration and reconstruction. The pieces are deliberately maculated with tears, cuts, and paint scrapes, and sanded to create holes and crevices, creating more tactile spots with materials like gesso, cold wax, and paper. The textures and flaws that emerge from that process are reworked or enhanced, creating new avenues of dialogue with the work.
